Family Immigration to Norway

For Saudi citizens and third country citizens who have been living in Saudi Arabia with a valid residence permit for 6 months or longer, who want to apply for family immigration with a family member in Norway. Those who apply for family immigration are usually the spouse, cohabitant or child of someone who lives in Norway.

The Norwegian Embassy kindly advises applicants  for family immigration to Norway to follow the steps below:


1. Register your application

  1. Go to Application Portal Norway.
  2. Register your application.
  3. Pay the fees online.

 

2. Book an appointment with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Riyadh

Please be aware that you have to register your application and pay the fee at the Application Portal Norway before you book an appointment. Appointments can be deleted without warning if the application is not registered. Please only book one appointment per registration. If you reserve more than one appointment based on the same registration, all your appointments may be deleted without warning. Accompanying children below 18 years do not need to schedule a separate appointment, and can attend the same appointment as the main applicant.

There is no charge for booking an appointment at the Norwegian Embassy in Riyadh. You book your appointment through the application portal after registering the application and paying the fee.

Please note that is not allowed to give or sell your appointment to anyone else. If anyone offers you to pay for an appointment, please contact the Embassy immediately. If you cannot make it to your appointment, please cancel it as soon as possible so that it will be made available for other applicants. It is not possible to submit your application without having booked an appointment first - even if there are available appointments or if another applicant does not show up for their appointment.

If there are no available appointments in the booking system, the reason might be that all the appointments already have been booked. New appointments are made available at the beginning of each month.

  

3. Hand in your application with supporting documents at the Norwegian Embassy in Riyadh

All documents must be A4, with no staples, no stickers, and no torn pages. The documents must be handed in together with your application for family reunification. If you have handed in your application documents to the Norwegian Embassy in Riyadh – and now need to send additional documents to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) – you can upload it here.  

Document checklist

Use the checklist in English provided by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration to find the list of required documents.

Documents not in English or Norwegian must be translated into English or Norwegian and be legalized by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Originals and copies must be brought to the Embassy.

 

4. Interview

Interviews are conducted in Arabic or English at the Embassy when the applicant comes to submit the application.


Interpreter

Applicants who do not speak Arabic or English must bring a translator.

Applicants who wish to have an interview in Norwegian must notify the Embassy in advance.

The interpreter cannot be a friend or related to the applicant. The Embassy reserves the right to cancel the interview if the language proficiency of the interpreter is sub-standard. 

The Embassy expects all interpreters to translate exactly what the applicant says. Submission of false information is illegal, and can lead to the rejection of the application and the applicant being expelled from Norway and the Schengen area. If an interpreter says that he or she can influence or help your application by fabricating or distorting information, please inform the Norwegian Embassy immediately.

Bearing the above-mentioned information in mind, please observe that it is up to the applicant to choose which interpreter to use. There are no translators accredited by the Embassy or connected to the Embassy whatsoever.

 

5. Processing time

The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) processes and makes the decision in every case for family reunification. The Embassy does not make decisions in these applications.
