VFS Global and applications for Schengen visas to Norway

From 13th of October 2016, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Riyadh is handing over the reception of Schengen visa applications to VFS Global. The VFS Global web page for visas to Norway will be accessable from October 10th.

From this day, all applicants in Saudi Arabia will hand over the applications and documents to the Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Riyadh, Jeddah or Al Khobar. The change is made for the benefit of the applicants, especially during high season.  Firstly, the waiting time for an appointment will be shorter.  Secondly, visa applications will be processed faster, thirdly the applicants living near Jeddah and Al Khobar will be able to submit their applications for Schengen visas there.

Please note that application procedures will remain the same for applicants applying from Oman and Bahrain. Read more here.

In practical terms, this means that the VFS will perform the task of accepting applications and supporting documents for Schengen visas, and perform the biometrics on behalf of the Embassy. The Norwegian Embassy in Riyadh will still process the visa applications, and VFS will not have any influence whatsoever on the decision or outcome of applications. The VACs in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar charge a service fee of 30 EUR, or the equivalent in SAR for handling the application, to be paid at the center. However, with longer opening hours at VFS the applicants will experience shorter waiting time for submission of applications and better service. VFS will also answer general queries about visas, and application procedures and have longer phone hours than the Embassy.

All applications will still have to be registered and paid online on the Application Portal Norway. After the application has been registered and the application fee of 60 Euro has been paid, an appointment can be made at the Visa Application Centre in order to submit the application (for Schengen visa). Applicants who are not able to register their application online, will get assistance to do so at the VFS centers.

Applicants for Schengen visas may start booking appointments at the VFS centers from 13th of October 2016.

From 12 October 2016 it will no longer be possible to book appointments at the Norwegian Embassy in Riyadh for Schengen visa applications. Appointments for residence permits will still be at the Norwegian Embassy in Riyadh. Read more about residence permits here.
